What is rational numbers?

The numbers of the form p/q, or a number which can be expressed in the form p/q, where ‘p and ‘q are integers and q ≠ 0, are called rational numbers.

In other words, a rational number is any number that can be expressed as the quotient of two integers with the condition that the divisor is not zero.

The collection of rational numbers is denoted by ‘Q’

Q={2/3,3/4,4/5….}

Here rational comes from the word ‘Ratio’ and Q comes from the word ‘quotient’.

For examples: each of the numbers 2/3, -3/14, -11/-5, 7/-9, and -6/-11 are rational numbers.
