What is D.El.Ed. ?

Diploma in Elementary Education [D.El.Ed] is a 2-year full-time diploma course which is divided into 4 semesters to train teachers mainly for the primary level.

It is a professional degree programme specifically designed package for in service untrained teachers working in primary/ upper primary schools of different states of the country.

The D.El.Ed degree is mandatory for teaching at the secondary (classes 6 to 10) and higher secondary (10+2 or classes 11 and 12). The D.El.Ed course admission procedure can vary from university to university.

Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) programme has been developed by the Academic Department, NIOS on the initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.

NIOS has been vested with the authority to train the untrained teachers at Elementary Level. The Programme aims at enabling the target group to develop in them skills, competencies, attitudes and understanding to make teaching and learning more effective.

Subjects in D El Ed

NIOS D.El.Ed. course syllabus has earned a good reputation. D.El.Ed. Subjects vary from one college to another.

Few of the subjects are Childhood and the development of children , Contemporary society, Education Society, Fine arts and education , Proficiency in English, Work and education, Mathematics education for the primary, Leadership and change, School health and education, Pedagogy of English language etc.

 

Eligibility to do D.El.Ed

who can do the D.El.Ed. ?

Candidates who have qualified Sr. Secondary or its equivalent (10+2)  examination from any recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible to apply. and B.A./B. Sc. Qualification will be eligible for admission into the course. For SC/ST/OBC candidates a relaxation of 5 percent marks is allowed.

 

D.El.Ed. Admission Process

Admission process for this course in most of the colleges is based on D.El.Ed. result of entrance exam which is different for different institutions.

All candidates who qualify the entrance exam are called for an interview. Based on the candidate’s performance in the entrance exam, personal interview and marks obtained, he/she will be provided admission into the course.

Questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of 10+2 level are asked in the entrance exam.

Questions are asked in 3 sections in this exam. Separate cut off lists for each section are issued. Those who clear the cut off are selected for the course in various colleges.
