What Are Adjectives?

Adjectives:

An adjective give information about the quality, number or quantity of Nouns. Or Words that tell more about the quality, number or quantity of Nouns are called Adjectives.

Adjectives are words that describe the qualities or states of being of nouns, An adjective is a word that modifies a noun or noun phrase or describes its referent. Its semantic role is to change information given by the noun.

Examle: He had a round face

He took some hours to do that work.

silly, yellow, fun, fast, many, few, millions, eleven.

Types of Adjectives:

Adjective of Quality:

The adjectives that are used to describe the nature of a subject or a noun or showing the kind or quality of nouns or pronouns are called Adjective of Quality.  Adjectives of quality are also termed as descriptive adjectives as they describe the kind of noun.

Adjectives which answer the question of what kind are called adjective of quality.

Example:  These flowers smell lovely.

It’s a beautiful day.

The sky is blue

She has bought a pink saree.

Adjective of Number

The adjectives that are used to describe the  number of a subject or a nouns or pronouns are called Adjective of Number.

Adjectives which answer the question of exactly how many  are called adjective of Number. These adjectives are used with countable Nouns.

Examples: Please give me two mangoes.

                      There is one piece of pizza left.

                      Second place goes to Mahendra!

He has Many friends.

Adjective of Quantity

 The adjectives that are used to describe estimated amount of  a subject or a nouns or pronouns are called Adjective of Quantity.

Adjectives which answer the question of exactly how much  are called adjective of Quantity . These adjectives are used with uncountable Nouns.

Examples: Sushil has much patience.

                     She is very poor

He has enough money to start business.

Please pass me some salt.
